Four Gartner recommendations for launching data science initiatives
Faced with a shortage of machine learning (ML) skills, coupled with the high price tags for data scientists, IT and Analytics leaders are finding it challenging to launch business initiatives that leverage artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Many leaders do not even fully understand the business benefits associated with implementing ML or other advanced analytics technologies to gain business commitment and funding.
Gartner’s latest research, “Doing Machine Learning Without Hiring (More) Data Scientists,” carves out four recommendations for organizations wishing to launch data science initiatives:
- Upskill existing staff to be (citizen) data scientists and contributing data science professionals
- Partner with academia.
- Hire third-party professionals.
- Utilize packaged analytics applications.
